Thank you for the kindness and care shown to me and my husband during our cataract operations. You gave us confidence and we are both recovering well
About Mr Ramy Bassily
I am currently the consultant lead in cornea and anterior segment surgery at Ipswich hospital and been in post since 2016. In my NHS practice, I deal with a wide range of corneal disease such as dry eyes, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies and trauma. As such we offer a comprehensive corneal service including all modern corneal transplant surgery techniques. It is also my responsibility to co-lead the cataract service within the NHS with over 3000 operations performed per year.
I gained the necessary experience from my intensive training in the region. This includes spending two years in two university hospitals and centres of excellence. One year was spent in my sub specialty training in Cambridge University Hospital where I was involved in on-going research into modern corneal transplant surgery development.
My passion in Ophthalmology goes beyond the clinical aspects and I am a keen educator. As an educational supervisor, I regularly teach on courses for exam preparation plus am heavily involved in the surgical training of our future Ophthalmologists.
Outside of work I invest the majority of my free time into my family, I have a wife and two sons that keep me very busy.
